Kilburn shooting

Police investigating a fatal shooting in Kilburn have named the victim as they continue to appeal for witnesses.

The murder investigation was launched by detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command after police were called at 17:20hrs on 8 December to reports of man collapsed in Netherwood Street, NW6.

Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and the victim was being tended to by members of the public. He was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 18:20hrs.

Next of kin have been informed and, while formal identification awaits, officers are confident the deceased is Yasir Beshira, 21 (01.05.95).

A post-mortem examination was conducted on Saturday, 10 December at Whittington Hospital Mortuary where the cause of death was determined as a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

At this stage it is believed the victim was approached by a lone male suspect in Palmerston Road and shot. The victim then made his way to Netherwood Street where he collapsed.

The suspect made off in the direction of Palmerston Road towards the Webheath Estate. He is described a male wearing a hooded top and jeans. Witnesses describe the gunman as being a slim white male, wearing a dark hooded top with the hood up and he had his lower face covered.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Partridge, who is leading the investigation by the Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: “I believe this person was loitering in and around Palmerston Road and the Webheath Estate for prior to the attack.

“Following the incident he fled along Palmerston Road and into the Webheath Estate. It is my view that this suspect would have stood out hanging around at this location and certainly when he fled through the estate following the attack.

“If anyone saw a person fitting this description either before or after the attack, I’m appealing for them to come forward to assist the investigation.”

He added: “We have had a positive initial response from the local community and a number of witnesses have already come forward.

“We know the area was extremely busy at the time of the shooting. I am convinced that other members of the public have either seen the incident itself, or have seen the suspect arrive at the scene or flee after the shooting.

“If you saw or heard anything please do contact our incident room. Any information provided to us will be dealt with in the strictest confidence.

“Detectives investigating the murder are continuing to work alongside local officers and remain at the scene, so the community will see an increased police presence in the local area.

“Some of these officers will be carrying out reassurance patrols; they are happy to talk to any community members who wish to speak to police about concerns following this shocking incident.”

Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to call officers at the HMCC incident room on 0208 358 0300 or the police non-emergency line on 101.
